Free Platforms or Self Hosted Sites? What you need to know!

What a week it was last week!!
I took the plunge, and had my site moved to a self hosted site.
I really had no idea what I was doing as tech savvy as I am; so I reached out for help.
I want to personally thank https://www.wpbeginner.com/ for their wonderful support and assistance in this!!

This is part of my Gearing up for 2020!! . I am going to have the best year yet for my business, and being able to have more control of my website was a must!!

So let me explain how all this came about. There are so many people in our industry that blog maybe this will help someone. My Blog was on WordPress.com I started there because at the time I didn’t want to invest in a self host. It needed time to grow, so I could figure out my niche, my direction, and if a website/blog was something I really wanted again.

After three years I realized it was time. What was happening is I was unable to use plugins. I had limited SEO, and I really could not expand any more than I had. So it was time!!

I also have two other websites, one is still in draft mode. With all of this going on I figure it was time. Web hosting is pretty much affordable now day, not as expensive as it used to be years ago. I remember paying several hundreds of dollars back in the 90s to have a website. Not so today!

So if you are blogging here are some questions you can ask yourself to see if this is the direction you need to go!!

1. Are you limited on what you are wanting to do because you do not have your blog on a self host ?

2. Is your traffic really high or are you struggling. IF you are struggling maybe your SEO is not working because you are using a free platform!

3. Ask yourself where do you see your website/blog in the years to come!! If you are just using it to blog and nothing more than maybe a free platform like WordPress.com is OK. However, if you see your site a business whether you have affiliate links, or marketing to customers, or maybe even a membership area then just maybe investing in a host is what you are needing.

Now I will admit there are many others out there that know a whole lot more on this subject then I do. I am always honest and real with you all.
So take your time, do you research before making a decision.
