There is a viral post going around social media saying to put Dawn dish soap in your washing machine for those tough dirty loads. Please, please don’t do this, and here is why!!
Do you know that poison control warns Dawn dish soap users to keep their soap out of reach & locked away from children and pets…? Yup it says it right on the label, yet many are still using it on their dishes, and now many are using it in their laundry!!
It blows my mind, I used to use Dawn all the time, especially because it seemed like it cleaned. Then I learned the Truth!!!
If you think it is good to use because they say it is, um sorry to be the one to tell you But, they just want your money! Like so many products on the market today, they have deceived their consumers.
Dawn dish soap contains methylisothiazolinone (MI), which is a synthetic chemical that enhances the life of products. MI is also a pesticide which is why I use it as a “home remedy weed killer” created with Dawn! yeah it took me many many years to figure this out, lol.
It also contains 1 4-dioxane, a groundwater contaminant. Which is well known to cause cancer of the liver and kidneys. You also find this in tap water but it often gets filtered out with proper filtration systems.
It even contains PEI-14 PEG-24/PPG-15 Copolymer. A carcinogenic that is known to be toxic to the reproductive system. ANOTHER PRODUCT THAT EFFECTS THE BABY MAKING SYSTEM.
Plus, more toxic ingredients some are not disclosed due to old crappy laws!!
- Methylisothiszolinone– A high concern for acute aquatic toxicity and some concern for skin irritation, allergies, and damage — especially for people with sensitive skin.
- C9-11 Paeth-8– Some concern for acute aquatic toxicity and allergic reactions on the skin.
- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate– Some concern for chronic aquatic toxicity, acute aquatic toxicity, damage to vision, and general organ damage.
- DECETH-8– Some concern for skin irritation and allergies, cancer, developmental and reproductive effects, damage to DNA, damage to vision, and respiratory effects.
- Fragrance– An unspecified ingredient and catch-all term that companies can use to hide hundreds of other harmful chemicals.
No these chemicals are not all being washed down the drain in your washer!! They sit on the fibers of your clothes, then you wear them. You put them on your babies!! It only takes 26 seconds for a toxin exposed to the skin to get in the bloodstream!! Do your own research if you do not believe me!! Then come back, we have a solution!!
I used to use Dawn dish for my dishes (pre-dishwasher life), carpet stains, clean our cars with, even in our laundry. Little did I know how toxic dawn dish soap was. I wish I had known sooner.
After learning the truth I knew there had to be something that actually worked, that was safer out there, that seriously was not going to dip into my pocketbook to much.
4 years ago I made the switch to the Melaleuca Store. Safer products that work, clean my dishes, clean my clothes and is safer for my family!! I am also doing my part to help the environment, and they truly do work for all those other little projects we use dish soap for. Even those wonderful bubbles you make for you kiddos!!
While not containing anything harmful to children or pets!
Still not sure…. Then join us in my private community!! I just wrapped up a Ditch it and Switch Challenge in there!!
