Busy Parents Must Make Time For Their Health

If you are a busy parent or caregiver to someone with special needs then you must read this!

To often parents and caregivers are so busy with the life of caring for a loved one with special needs that they really honestly forget to take care of themselves. Are you that person?? If so keep reading!!

I know it is tough I am also a special needs parent and I have been there. You are juggling work, therapies, IEPs, sometimes it is all you can do to keep the house clean!!! I get it!!

Let me ask you though….. What will happen if you get sick?? What will happen if you are unable to keep up or do all those super mom or dad things????  OR worse??? It happens!

With today’s rising epidemics on obesity, heart disease and diabetes; prevention is the key!! What about medical costs?? Don’t we already have enough medical costs and stress with our loved one we are caring for, why do we want to add more to that????

These are questions that I asked myself a year ago when after multiple doctors could not figure out what was wrong with me. All we knew was my health was going down hill. I was getting older and I feared what would happen if I know longer could do everything that needed to be done to care for my son!! So I took a good long hard look in the mirror! I was over weight, I was eating healthy, I was trying to get active as much as time permitted!! I was doing everything right!!! WRONG!!!! 

The fact that I was still over weight and my health was not improving was telling me I was wrong and I didn’t know what I was doing to get myself healthier!!

Busy parents may overlook healthy eating and exercise, opting for convenience and processed foods. Over time, the poor nutritional value and excess salts and added sugars of these foods can have serious health implications for your and your family.  Start with small steps! Learn about healthy eating, nutrition, whole foods, clean eating, paleo, gluten free or whatever, but just do it!!! 🍓 You have to get up and move!! 💪 And I am not talking about getting on  a treadmill, or going for a walk although it is a good first step! You have to exercise your whole body, all your muscles to reap the benefits of all the good nutrition you are feeding it!!

☀You also have to exercise you mind!! Yes find your zen space!!! Taking time for you to find you is so important to relieving stress!! There are many ways to do this, but do what works for you to clear your mind!! Stress is a killer and the more we learn to relax and enjoy the ride the more chances we have of living a healthier life.

Listen I am not a nutritionist, a health expert, or even a personal trainer. What I am is a mom what was at her limits!! A mom that was unhealthy, didn’t know who she was, life revolved around my child and there was no time for me! But I did it, I changed my life and I am so glad I did!! I am in the best health I have ever been in physically and mentally!! I can run circles around my child now!! Sure getting older is going to happen, but at least I know I am doing everything I can to be around for a very long time to care for my child!!!
